1. Introduction and Acceptance

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of services provided by Reading School of Martial Arts ("we," "us," "our," or "the School"), operated by Si-Fu Wayne Husbands. By enrolling in any of our classes, programmes, or services, you ("Student," "Parent/Guardian," or "you") agree to be bound by these Terms.

If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or guardian must agree to these Terms on your behalf and will be responsible for your compliance with them.


2. About Our Services

Reading School of Martial Arts provides instruction in traditional Chinese martial arts, including but not limited to:

  • Lau Family Hung Gar Kung Fu
  • Tai Chi Chuan
  • Eagle Claw Kung Fu
  • Kickboxing (Hung Style)
  • Women's Self-Defence
  • Chi Gong
  • Private one-to-one tuition
  • Group classes for children (ages 7 and above) and adults
  • Fitness and conditioning programmes

All instruction is provided by qualified instructors under the supervision of Si-Fu Wayne Husbands, who holds over 30 years of experience in traditional Chinese martial arts.


3. Enrolment and Fees

3.1 Enrolment Process

  • All students must complete a registration form before commencing classes
  • Students under 18 require written consent from a parent or guardian
  • Medical conditions or physical limitations must be disclosed during registration
  • The School reserves the right to refuse enrolment at its discretion

3.2 Fees and Payment

  • Class fees are payable in advance as specified during enrolment
  • Payment methods accepted include cash, bank transfer, and card payments (where available)
  • No refunds will be provided for missed classes due to student absence
  • Fees are subject to change with 30 days' written notice
  • Outstanding fees may result in suspension of training privileges

3.3 Membership Terms

  • Membership periods and cancellation policies will be specified in your enrolment agreement
  • Students wishing to suspend or cancel membership must provide written notice
  • The School may suspend or terminate membership for breach of these Terms

4. Health, Safety, and Liability

4.1 Health Requirements

  • Students must be in adequate physical condition to participate in martial arts training
  • Any medical conditions, injuries, or medications that may affect participation must be disclosed
  • Students train at their own risk and must not exceed their physical capabilities
  • Pregnant students must obtain medical clearance and inform the instructor

4.2 Safety Rules and Conduct

  • Students must follow all safety instructions provided by instructors
  • Appropriate training attire must be worn at all times
  • Jewellery and loose items that may cause injury must be removed
  • Students must warm up properly before training and cool down afterwards
  • Sparring and contact training require instructor supervision and appropriate protective equipment

4.3 Limitation of Liability

  • The School, its instructors, and staff shall not be liable for any injury, loss, or damage arising from participation in training
  • Students participate voluntarily and assume all risks associated with martial arts training
  • Our liability is limited to the extent permitted by English law
  • Students are advised to obtain appropriate personal insurance coverage

4.4 Emergency Procedures

  • In case of injury, first aid will be administered, and emergency services contacted if necessary
  • Emergency contact information must be kept current
  • Students consent to emergency medical treatment if unable to provide consent themselves

5. Code of Conduct and Behaviour

5.1 General Behaviour

  • Students must show respect to instructors, fellow students, and School property
  • Aggressive, abusive, or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated
  • Students must maintain good personal hygiene
  • The use of martial arts techniques outside the School for aggressive purposes is strictly prohibited

5.2 Attendance and Punctuality

  • Regular attendance is encouraged for optimal progress
  • Students should arrive punctually for scheduled classes
  • Late arrivals may be refused entry at the instructor's discretion for safety reasons

5.3 Disciplinary Action

  • Breach of conduct rules may result in verbal warnings, written warnings, suspension, or termination
  • No refund of fees will be provided in cases of disciplinary termination
  • The School reserves the right to refuse service to any individual

6. Intellectual Property and Confidentiality

6.1 Training Methods and Techniques

  • All training methods, forms, and techniques taught remain the intellectual property of the School
  • Students may not teach or demonstrate School techniques commercially without written permission
  • Traditional martial arts lineage and history must be respected and accurately represented

6.2 Recordings and Photography

  • Students consent to being photographed or filmed during classes for promotional purposes
  • Students who object to being photographed must inform the School in writing
  • Students may not record classes without explicit permission

7. Child Protection

7.1 Safeguarding Minors

  • The School is committed to providing a safe environment for all children
  • All instructors undergo appropriate background checks
  • Parents/guardians are welcome to observe classes
  • Any concerns regarding child welfare should be reported immediately

7.2 Supervision

  • Children must be collected promptly after classes
  • The School is not responsible for supervising children before or after scheduled class times
  • Parents must provide emergency contact information and medical details

8. Grading and Progression

8.1 Belt/Sash System

  • Students progress through traditional grading levels based on skill and knowledge
  • Grading assessments are conducted at the instructor's discretion
  • Additional fees may apply for grading examinations and certificates

8.2 Recognition of Previous Training

  • Students with prior martial arts experience may be assessed for appropriate class placement
  • The School is not obligated to recognise grades or ranks from other institutions

9. Data Protection and Privacy

9.1 Personal Information

  • We collect and process personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018
  • Personal information is used solely for class administration and communication
  • Medical information is kept confidential and secure
  • Data will not be shared with third parties without consent, except where legally required

9.2 Marketing Communications

  • Students may opt out of marketing communications at any time
  • Essential class information and safety notices will still be communicated

10. Force Majeure and Closure

10.1 Temporary Closure

  • The School may temporarily close due to circumstances beyond our control (including but not limited to pandemics, natural disasters, or government restrictions)
  • During closures, we may offer alternative training methods such as online classes where possible
  • Fee adjustments or credits may be provided at the School's discretion

10.2 Permanent Closure

  • In the unlikely event of permanent closure, students will receive reasonable notice
  • Outstanding fees for unused classes may be refunded on a pro-rata basis

11. Complaints and Disputes

11.1 Complaint Procedure

  • Complaints should first be raised with the instructor or School management
  • Formal written complaints will be investigated and responded to within 14 days
  • We aim to resolve all disputes amicably and promptly

11.2 Governing Law

  • These Terms are governed by English law
  • Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of English courts

12. General Provisions

12.1 Amendments

  • These Terms may be updated periodically
  • Changes will be communicated via notice at the School or electronic communication
  • Continued participation after changes constitutes acceptance of new Terms

12.2 Severability

  • If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remainder shall continue in full force

12.3 Entire Agreement

  • These Terms, together with your enrolment agreement, constitute the entire agreement between you and the School
