Cam Fu Zhao — Seizing Tiger Claw

A chin na technique using claw-shaped hands to grab, control, lock, and incapacitate.

What Is Cam Fu Zhao?

Cam Fu ZhaoSeizing Tiger Claw — is a form of chin na (joint locking and controlling) executed with tiger claw hands, mimicking a tiger seizing its prey.

Cam

To seize, capture, or subdue.

Fu

Tiger.

Zhao

Claw.

Chin na

Joint locking and control — the underlying principle.

Five Uses

  1. Grabbing soft targets: Eyes, neck, throat, biceps, or ribs — the claw snaps and rips inward.
  2. Controlling limbs: Seize the wrist, elbow, or shoulder to lock the arm and transition to a throw.
  3. Breaking balance: Grip and pull the opponent off their centreline — used before a sweep or strike.
  4. Ripping and tearing: Rake the claw across the face, chest, or limbs at close quarters.
  5. Transitioning to throws: Turn the opponent's joint and throw using torque and leverage.

Why It Is Effective

  • Applied in short, powerful bursts using forearm power and waist rotation.
  • Operates at close quarters where claw control is maximised.
  • Concentrates force into fingertips for impact on soft tissue targets.
  • Connects naturally to takedowns, sweeps, and joint manipulation.
