White Tiger Fist · Hung Gar Kung Fu

Yat Chee Choy — Sun Fist Punch

A direct side punch from the horse stance striking with the first two knuckles — trains hip-driven power.

What Is Yat Chee Choy?

Yat Chee Choy — the Sun Fist Punch — is delivered from the horse riding stance, the fist extending directly to the side, striking with the first two knuckles. It trains the core Hung Gar principle of hip-driven power.

Key Points

  1. Stance: Horse riding posture — feet planted, weight evenly distributed, knees bent.
  2. Chamber: Hold the fist at the hip or side with the elbow bent and forearm parallel to the ground.
  3. Extension: Drive the fist directly outward, arm slightly bent at the elbow.
  4. Hip rotation: Rotate hips and shoulders simultaneously to generate power.
  5. Impact: Strike with the first two knuckles — wrist straight, forearm aligned.

Common Errors

Arm-only power

Punching from the shoulder. Hip rotation generates most of the force.

Dropping the elbow

The elbow should stay level — dropping it reduces structure.

Locking the joint

Never fully lock the elbow at extension.

Loose wrist

A bent wrist at impact reduces force and risks injury.
